Integrating Social Innovation into Formal Teacher Education at UBU

As part of its long-term Sustainability Strategy, the University of Burgos (UBU) has begun the systemic integration of project results into formal higher education. UBU will include the theoretical framework and the activities developed in subjects within the Degree in Primary Education and the Master’s Degree in Secondary Education. This integration will target courses such as Innovation and Research and Education for Citizenship.

The goal of this initiative is to achieve the inclusion of a Social Innovation and Democratic Education framework in formal teacher education. To date, the project team has conducted presentations of EU-SIDE and discussion with teacher educators involved in the teaching of in-service courses. The success of this integration will be measured by the inclusion of the framework in the subjects’ guidelines, ensuring that democratic education remains a core competence for the next generation of teachers.
